About sfAWIS

The San Francisco chapter of the Association for Women in Science (sfAWIS) was founded in August, 2003 to:
  • provide networking opportunities for women in science at all levels;
  • foster career development and advancement for women in science;
  • raise public awareness of the scientific and technological skills of women;
  • work with other scientific, educational, and women's organizations in developing national and community programs that meet the above goals; and
  • provide recognition for women scientists in order to advance the above goals.

About AWIS

AWIS, a non-profit national organization of women and men, was established in 1971 with the mission to achieve equity and full participation for women in a variety of scientific fields. AWIS has over 4,200 members in the life and physical sciences, mathematics, social sciences, and engineering.
